Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Your Water—and More
You have the right to be an informed water consumer, and that’s why we’ve compiled lots of valuable information and resources for you right here.
HWA’s water sources are 9 wells and a spring. Thus all of our water comes from groundwater as opposed to surface water (streams, rivers, and lakes). The water is treated with chlorine and fluoride at the pumphouse and then pumped into the water mains at sufficient pressure to fill our 6 water storage tanks. The pressure at your house is created by storing water in elevated tanks that are positioned at high points throughout our service area.
At each customer location, there is an authority service line from the main to a curb box (shut-off valve) and then a customer service line from the curb box into the house. Inside the house there is a water meter where water consumption is measured. The customer is responsible for the customer service line from the curb box into the house.
Because our water comes from groundwater, it is critical to protect that groundwater. Never pour motor oil or other substances into a hole in the ground or into storm sewers or drainage channels. Be cognizant of chemicals that you apply to lawns and the effect they could have on the groundwater below. Report sinkholes and other ground penetrations to authorities so that they can be repaired to stop infiltration. And report spills as soon as they occur so hazmat contractors can clean them up to minimize infiltration into the ground. Help us keep your water clean and pure!
